I have always wanted to visit Greece. But since spending so much in Italy over the past 15 years, I thought there wasn't any more room in my heart. Boy was I wrong.
Greece hit in a completely different way. Sure there are the ruins in Athens that feel very similar to Rome and buildings built into the sides of a hill that felt a lot like Cinque Terre. But it was SO very different.
Maybe it was the people I was with; 9 extraordinary people who have all traveled on a retreat with me before, some of them this was this was their 9th trip. On this trip we split out time between Athens and Santorini.
While in Athens we saw the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, Poseidon's Temple in Cape Sounion and visit a quaint seaside town called Nafplion. We also shopped and ate SO much good food.
OHHHH and the yoga. I rented a super hot yoga studio right in the heart of Athens. The daily sweat was a perfect way to begin each day before taking of on each adventure.
After 4 days in the hustle and bustle of Athens we ferried over to Santorini, where we stayed in the most serene location. The hotel and spa resort was to die for and the most perfect way to spend the second half of our trip. We enjoyed the pool, the sauna, steam room and some of us got massages. All of in time for our 6 mile hike from Fira to Oia, where again we shopped and ate so much good food all along the way. We not only saw Santorini, we also took a day long cruise that stopped at 3 other islands for hiking and swimming in the hot springs.
Whenever I wrap up a retreat I take the time to reflect on what worked well and what would I change. There are a few things I would do differently if I decide to retreat to Greece again. But all in all I would call this retreat a HUGE success.
Next stop Amsterdam! Will you join??
